Grapefruit Lavender Soap and Coconut Mint Soap

Grapefruit Lavender Soap
and
Coconut Mint Soap

Yields 7 to 8 bars of soap per 1 lb. bag of Shea Butter

Ingredients:

Zest of 1 grapefruit
1-2 Tablespoons of Lavender
3 Tablespoons of coconut flakes
8 – 10 chopped fresh sage leaves
15 – 20 drops peppermint essential oil
15 – 20 drops lavender essential oil
1 lb. bag shea butter

Methods for Soap Base
  1. Rinse soap molds to ensure they are free of any residue. Let dry and place on backing sheet to make transporting them later easier.
  2. Check to make sure baking sheet fits in freezer, choose a smaller sheet if it doesn’t fit.
  3. Melt soap base according to package instruction.
  4. For stove top melting use a double boiler system by filling a large pot with water and putting a smaller pot inside of it.
  5. Once water has boiled place shea butter in small pot and turn on heat to Low/Simmer. Cover and heat.
  6. - Stir every few minutes until shea butter is completely melted.
  7. - While soap is melting gather grapefruit zest, lavender, chopped sage, coconut flakes, peppermint oil and lavender oil.

Method for Grapefruit + Lavender

  1. Once soap base has melted let sit for a couple of minutes.
10. Pour out 1 cup of soap base into measuring cup.
11. Add grapefruit zest, lavender and 15-20 drops of lavender essential oil to measuring cup, stirring frequently so ingredients don’t settle to the bottom.
12. Pour into 3-4 soap molds.
13. Use spatula to ensure even distribution of lavender and grapefruit zest.
14. Rinse measuring cup.
Method for Coconut + Mint
16. Pour remaining soap base into measuring cup and add coconut flakes, chopped sage leaves, and 15-20 drops of peppermint oil stirring frequently.
21. Pour into 3-4 soap molds.
22. Use spatula to ensure even distribution of coconut flakes and sage leaves.
23. Let sit for 1 hour then place in freezer for 1 hour.
24. Soaps should pop out of mold easily with use of a knife to cut around edges.
Notes
25. Any heat resistant container can function as a soap mold.
26. If using baking dish/Tupperware as a soap mold you may need to spray with cooking oil or use a liner to ensure soap doesn’t stick to pan.
27. Soap base is going to be hot and may burn, handle carefully!
28. Coconut flakes and grapefruit zest will act as exfoliates.  If your prefer a smoother soap chop flakes and zest into smaller pieces.
29. Wrap soaps in wax paper to help prevent sweating in humid environments.

Perfume By Crunchy Betty

Perfume

I was recently working on a guest post for Delicious Obsessions about the ingredients in perfume and the nasty side effects they can cause. I’ve always been sensitive to perfumes so I love the idea of making my own perfume.
When I started researching, it wasn’t that easy to find homemade perfume recipes with the essential oil measurements listed. As a newbie to essential oils, I want things spelled out and clear. I’m not quite ready to experiment on my own yet.
So I persevered and until I found 15 tantalizing perfume recipes to share with you today.
I’ve listed the essential oil blends for each perfume recipe, but you will have to click the button below the ingredients to view the complete recipe, instructions and carrier oils needed.
